GENRE
Within this section I will be critically analysing genre within three music videos.
Genre is a classification of mediums into a specific category or style.
There are different modes that come under genre:
-Reflexive mode: This mode makes the audience aware that they are watching a documentary. The film maker recognises his presence in front of the camera and it provides a narrative to the documentary.
-Observational mode: This is associated with fly on the wall type documentaries. They appear to have been filmed in 'real time' as if the camera has come upon the events while characters are unaware of the filming taking place.

MUSIC VIDEO 1
STRESS BY JUSTICE
The music video, Stress by Justice, follows an electronic/dubstep genre. As for the filming that is used and shown in this video is documentary and realism. This is shown through the methods of filming used. The documentary modes used are reflexive and observational, as the audience are aware they watching a documentary, but also feel they are involved in the chaos. The camera men are seen within the music video and the audience can see that they struggle to keep up with the events. The camera is therefor shaken which results in amateur looking footage. The use of handheld cameras also help justify the documentary style in which it was filmed.
MUSIC VIDEO 2
A TEAM BY ED SHEERAN
Musically, 'The A Team' is a folk ballad with lyrics that speak of a drug-addicted prostitute. His music sometimes is an unlikely combination of acoustic folk and grime. The songs instrumentation is provided by a simple combination of guitar and vocals. As for the filming, the video comes under social realism, but at occasion there are areas that fall under a documentary style. This is seen by the way the video constantly follows and documents the protagonists story.
MUSIC VIDEO 3
FEATHERSTONE BY THE PAPER KITES
The Paper kites, fall under the genre of Indie/Folk. Musically, their music is steady and gives off a relaxed vibe. I personally feel their style of filming follows a documentary style. Even though their shots are steady the documentary style of filming is expressed through the camera constantly being behind the characters and the action being made. The natural lighting used also reinforces the realistic and documentary style.
